Cosy beergarden

Hofbraeukeller, Innere Wienerstrasse 19, Munich, Germany

A place to breathe in the middle of the city. Not Munich´s largest beergarden, but definitely one of the best!
And it´s located in Haidhausen, so you got lots of options to go on after the garden is closed.
The food is traditional bavarian beergarden cuisine, with some light dishes, but of course also the hearty stuff, that helps you through the rest of the night! As in most beergardens you can bring your own food (if you use the tables without tablecloth)

A playground is on the premises, so your kids will be catered, too.

Italiano ottimo

Vinaiolo - osteria con cucina, Steinstraße 42, Munich, Germany

We think - no, we are sure! - this is one of the best Italian restaurants in Munich. Excellent food and remarcable good wines!
The menu keeps within reasonable limits, but there was always enough choice for everyone's liking. The service is very attentive, always friendly and gives reliable advice.
The price range is upper middle class (lunch menu starting from 20,00€, bottle of wine about 35,00€)
The room is not big, so you sit a bit tightly (that is the only "minus" we can report). Book in advance!! (especially for weekend dinners).
It is difficult to find a parking lot in Haidhausen, so better leave your car at home and reach "Vinaiolo" by S-Bahn (Rosenheimer Platz), U5 (Max-Weber-Platz) or tram (15,25).
If you like Italian cuisine you'll like "Vinaiolo", we are sure.

Landmark of Munich

Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady), Frauenplatz 1, Munich, Germany

P4200009

One of the best known - and best visible - landmarks of Munich are the "Frauentuerme" (towers of our Lady; see also on goseemunich "Frauenkirche"). These domed twin towers with their green helmets are part of "Frauenkirche" (also called "Dom") which is the biggest church in town (and the seat of the catholic archbishop). This brick church was built nearly 550 years ago. The towers are 100 and 99 m high (guess which is the higher one). You can go up one tower by an elevator; bella vista!

Defeating the evil

Michaelskirche - Sankt Michael, Neuhauser Strasse 6, Munich, Germany

Img_0675_small

St. Michael church was built in the late 16th century (1583-1597) by the Dutch architect Friedrich Sustris.
Duke Wilhelm V. intended to demonstrate by means of this building his power and his will to strengthen the catholic faith in his country.
The statues in the huge front embody a religious and political statement: High up in the triangle of the gable is Christ the Savior of the world. In the three levels below Bavarian dukes and famous catholic emperors and kings are shown as shining defenders of the catholic faith. Nearly on the ground level, between the entrance doors, in a gold gilded niche there is an impressive bronze statue: St. Michael killing the devil - the good defeating the evil.
The inside dimensions of the church are outstanding; the barrel vault (31mtrs wide and 28mtrs high) is after St. Peter in Rome the biggest in the world.
On the right side near the high altar is the entrance to the "Fuerstengruft"(rulers' crypt) where you see the graves of many members of the Wittelsbach dynasty; among them also the tomb of "dream king" Ludwig II.. For the visit of this crypt you have to buy a ticket.
There are a lot more things to see and to admire in this church (e.g.:painting in the high altar, in a niche on the left side the tomb of Napoleon's stepson Eugene Beauharnais (architects Klenze and Thorwaldsen, near the entrance the big bronze angel (16th century).

Sit in a garden in the middle of the city...

Preysinggarten, Preysingstraße 69, Munich, Germany

Nice café in Haidhausen, great atmosphere in the summer when you can sit outside...
But beware: if you want to go for breakfast on the weekend, make sure you have a reservation...
