It only comes around every four years, so don't miss a minute of the World Cup action -- catch the games at these venues.

A.

Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub

112 SW 2nd Ave
Portland, Oregon

Kells was just named the sole official U.S. Soccer bar in the state of Oregon (http://budurl.com/524z). Catch all the action Saturday, June 12, when the U.S. takes on England.

B.

Pioneer Courthouse Square

705 SW 6th Ave
Portland, Oregon

On Dec. 12 from 1:30 - 3 p.m., tuba enthusiasts, music lovers, and the holiday shoppers will rejoice in the sound of nearly 200 tubas playing the festive music of the season. The audience not only listens to the sounds of the powerful tubas, but is encouraged to participate in the sing-a-long carols.

Claudia's

3006 SE Hawthorne Blvd
Portland, Oregon

Then Claudia's. Period. Best sports bar ever. Dedicated Blazer's following (ok, they seem busy for other sports/teams also, but that's so much less important.) Cheap beer, and plenty to choose from. A few of my favorite bartenders in Portland work here - the staff are fun, and they work really hard on Blazers nights to keep the beer flowing and the crowd happy.

The food is very generously portioned - if I order the nachos I have snack food for the whole game. Ditto on pizza. They have a TON of TV's, though you should get to games early if you want prime seating in front of the projection screen. Don't sweat it too much though - the game will be on 3 or 4 other TV's around the place.

After a particularly tense Blazer's game I was surprised to discover that they have karaoke on Saturday nights, and buzzed enough not to high tail it outta there right away. To my shock, the KJ there has actual singing chops, and good taste. To my bigger shock, my favorite sports bar started filling up with girls. Twenty-something year old cute girls. The lights were dimmed, the pint glasses were replaced with martini glasses and mixed drinks, and my sports bar became some sort of late night hot spot. Weird. I didn't sing, of course, but I might have, if the blond had given me a sign...

On Deck Sports Bar & Grill

910 NW 14th Ave
Portland, Oregon

Love this locally owned place. I got tired of the chain and big box restaurants. This is a refreshing change of pace. It looks expensive, but isn't. My server, Alex, was great, friendly and quick. She took the time to explain the different beers they offered, and brought me a taste of a couple to help me decide.

The new Happy Hour menu is cheap and has good choices. The drink prices are quite reasonable, especially in the Pearl. Early evening is magical, with the outdoor lights on the trees and the candles inside.

I'll definitely come back for hot summer days on the deck!

E.

Piazza Italia

1129 NW Johnson St
Portland, Oregon

Authentic Italian Deli. All products from Italy. Open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Buffalo Wild Wings

327 SW Morrison St
Portland, Oregon

Buffalo Wild Wings, or better know as BWW is located in the heart of downtown. It offers wing specials on Tuesday and Thursday. $.50 regular wings, and boneless wings. They have 13 differnet flavors of hotness. From BBQ flavor all the way to Blazin hot. This is a great restaurant for families, and has over 40 big/flat screen TV's to enjoy any sporting event. In addition it has a full bar, with many beers on tap, and has a full menu that offers a variey of meal choices.

Macadam's Bar & Grill

5833 SW MacAdam Ave
Portland, Oregon

I always have such a great time at Macadam's. It's a great place to hang out with a group of people to play shuffleboard, darts, pool, etc. The menu offers a wide variety - but I love the Irish Nachos!

Triple Nickel Pub

Portland, Oregon

Blitz Bar

110 NW 10th Ave
Portland, Oregon

Came here for a drink on a date with the husband....the drink was alright, the service was alright, the place was totally empty and unispiring. Not my favorite bar.

Rialto Poolroom Bar

529 SW 4th Ave
Portland, Oregon

sorry folks, your great lunches are over now. they lost their chef of 4 years. so no more from scratch cooking. seems like unique specials are gone too. bar food if that is what you want. fried stuff, if that is what you want. just a drinking hole now

McMenamins Mission Theater

1624 NW Glisan St
Portland, Oregon

Like so many of the McMenamins pubs, the Mission is great for a beer and a cheap movie, live music or a sports game. My favorite movie night is Wednesdays: movie, burger and beer for $11, and for the kiddies, check out their Sunday matinees.

Take note: McMenamins does not have what you would call 5 star food or service, but it's easy, decent food and a truly Portland experience.

L.

Marathon Taverna

1735 W Burnside St
Portland, Oregon

This really is the go to bar for solid food (Gyro is tastey), fun-loving servers, CHEAP drinks, and normally a younger crowd. A human being goes to the Marathon because it's a central location and you are guaranteed to have a GREAT time.

With drinks specials including $2.50 High Life mini ptichers, and good bar food, Marathon is a great place to go after PGE Park's Thirsty Thursday. I also recommend Marathon for a place in NW to watch games.

Thirsty Lion Pub & Grill

71 SW 2nd Ave
Portland, Oregon

While staying in Portland 2 nights we ate twice at Irish Pubs!
www.thirstylionpub.com - (503) 222-2155 and Kells. The kids were excited to be in the fun attmosphere and the price (VERY REASONIBLE) menu & service was excellent for family fun. Teenagers can be picky eaters and hard to please and both establishments made our under age kids feel welcome. The kids loved watching the bartender serve up drinks with speed & style and since it was a few days before St. Paddy's the places were decorated in a feastive way. Really fun places for lunch, dinner or snack.
